Getting Started: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Visit ledger.com/start

This is the only trusted link for setup. Always double-check the URL and ensure you're on the official site.

Step 2: Download Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the app that lets you manage your crypto and connect with your device. Download it for your OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android) from the Start page.

Step 3: Install & Open Ledger Live

After installing, open the app. Choose “Get Started” and follow the instructions. You’ll be guided to set up your Ledger device or restore an existing one.

Step 4: Set Up Your Device

Follow these steps directly on your Ledger device:

Choose “Set up as new device.”
Create a secure PIN code (4–8 digits).
Write down your 24-word recovery phrase. Keep it offline and private.
Confirm the phrase on the device to complete setup.

Note: Your recovery phrase is the only backup of your crypto. Ledger cannot recover it for you.

Step 5: Verify Device Authenticity

Ledger Live will automatically check that your device is genuine. This ensures your device hasn’t been tampered with.

Step 6: Install Apps & Add Accounts

In Ledger Live, go to “Manager” to install apps for the coins you want to use. Then add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other supported assets.

Step 7: Receive and Send Crypto

Use “Receive” to get your wallet address and receive crypto.
Use “Send” to transfer funds — confirm transactions on your device before they’re signed.

Keep your 24-word recovery phrase offline and in a safe place.
